'I made Before I put on my Make-Up/ Mirror Me during a residency at Cass School of Art, (London Metropolitan University) in 2017, which culminated in an open studio presentation including a performance entitled An Ounce Of Flounce. The studio was in Whitechapel, close to Spitalfields Market which I have frequented for many years. I’d picked up some 1960s model Agency cards and other bits and pieces, including a piece of lace that looked like it was maybe a collar or cuff, and some French fashion/needlecraft magazines from the 1920s and 30s. These elements ended up becoming part of this narrative drawing. The title references a line in the song, Say A Little Prayer For Me, by the one and only Aretha Franklin.' |
