Caroline Zurmely

'I use fingernail polish to paint imagery drawn from tabloid photography and promotional media. My work explores how fame, visibility, and identity are constructed through highly curated and staged moments.

The reflective surface of nail polish mirrors the artificial gloss of public image, while its ties to beauty and self-adornment underscore themes of performance and control. By reworking familiar pop culture icons, I examine the tension between authenticity and appearance in contemporary image-making.'

Kiss Kiss, 2025, nail varnish on cradled panel, 46 x 61 cm.
